\nImagine a world where the great movie musicals are all but lost to modern audiences\; where films like &ldquo\;Singin&rsquo\; in the Rain&rdquo\; and &ldquo\;An American in Paris&rdquo\; and &ldquo\;Meet Me in St. Louis&rdquo\; exist primarily in the realm of diminishing memory. That was the world of 1974\, before home video\, before the explosion of cable\, before the spread of cinema art houses beyond big cities and college campuses. That was also the year MGM dug into its vaults and assembled this astonishing retrospective of the studio&rsquo\;s greatest musical hits\, hosted by the likes of Gene Kelly\, Fred Astaire\, Frank Sinatra and Elizabeth Taylor.
